In 2013, after being diagnosed with heart disease, Paul Chatlin was given a choice by his doctor, change his diet or undergo major heart surgery.
At the time, Paul was eating a typical Western diet, his favorite foods were cheese and meat, and he loved cooking with oil, but the prescribed nutrition change required him to give all of these up and eat a low fat, whole food, plant-based diet.
Struggling to know what to eat and how to prepare it, Paul attended a seminar on plant-based nutrition by world renowned physician and researcher Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn. Better equip and motivated, Paul stuck with his new lifestyle. One month on, his heart pain went away completely. Within a year, his cholesterol levels dropped from 309 to 122 and he lost over 40lbs.
Thrilled with the impact a plant-based diet had on his health and determined to give back to his community, Paul started The Plant Based Nutrition Support Group (PBNSG) to help others with the transition and equip them with the skills, knowledge and support to live in optimal health.
In the second, ‘Plant Power Stories’, a series from H.O.P.E. The Project that aims to inform and inspire people about the benefits of a plant-based diet and a conscious lifestyle, Paul shares his journey back to health and encourages us all to give back to our communities.
