As a child D Anthony Evans was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, a rare genetic disorder where tumors grow on nerve tissue. Often benign, the tumors can become malignant, resulting in an aggressive form of cancer known as MPNST (Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumors).
In 2012, D was diagnosed with this aggressive form of cancer and was given just six months to live.
And yet, today he is not only surviving, he is thriving.
Since his diagnosis D has undergone 11 surgeries to remove 385 tumors, one of which weighed more than two pounds. He made the decision not to undergo chemotherapy.
Prior to his diagnosis D was a self-confessed ‘meat-head’ and ate around 10,000 calories a day to maintain his muscular physique. These days he eats an exclusively whole food, plant-based diet, consuming around 4,500 calories a day. He works out 3-4 hours a day, 7 days a week and can deadlift 700lbs.
Alongside fitness and nutrition, D firmly believes a positive mindset is key to a good life.
In the first ‘Plant Power Stories’, a new series from H.O.P.E. The Project that aims to inspire and educate people about the benefits of a plant-based diet and healthy lifestyle, D shares his incredible life story and his journey back to health and happiness.
